Advantage Home Care (AHC) provides an affordable solution for aging individuals or couples who want to remain independent in their homes as long as possible but who require non-medical assistance with activities such as light housework, laundry, meal planning and preparation, medication reminders, help with bathing, dressing and grooming and dressing, incidental transportation and/or companionship.

Services provided by caring and well- trained caregivers can be arranged for as little as two hours per day several days a week, or as many as 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays. The caregivers at AHC are all thoroughly screened, drug tested and criminally background checked. All caregivers are closely supervised in the field and provided with quarterly professional development sessions to insure that all caregivers provide the highest quality of care.

AHC was founded in 2008 by Rich Blumenthal, a Portland, Maine native with a background in special education, educational publishing and business management. Mr. Blumenthal was the Senior Vice President and Publisher at the Museum of Science in Boston relocating to Maine to start Advantage Home Care. Blumenthal states that one reason he founded the company was his own frustration in finding quality care options for his own mother during the last year of her life.

2015-BOHC-Provider-of-ChoiceIn partnership with the Maine Alzheimer’s Association, Advantage Home Care has introduced a unique training program for all its caregivers are certified to provide care for Alzheimer’s and Dementia. This curriculum, known as Habilitation Training, provides our caregivers with the background information and practical skills that they need to provide high quality care for our Alzheimer’s and Dementia clients. The course was created by Dr. Paul Raia, an expert on the disease with over 20 years at the Massachusetts Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and Joanne Koenig-Coste a noted speaker on dementia and author of the book Learning to Speak Alzheimers.

Advantage Home Care also offers the Welcome Home Program, a transportation and short term care program for seniors being released from the hospital or rehab center. For a fixed fee a caregiver will pick the client up at the hospital, take them home and spend six hours with them to insure that they can safely adjust to the change in environment. During the six hours the caregiver will clean the home, shop for food if necessary, cook meals, change bed linens and do laundry and help the client re-orient to living alone is his/her home.
