Retirement communities in Maine, also called senior independent living communities or 55+ Communities, are designed for independent seniors with few needs for assistance. Some retirement communities may have age restrictions accepting only residents 55 and older.

Residents of retirement communities live in a variety of apartment sizes from studios to large two bedrooms. Some Maine retirement communities cater to individuals, however most communities are designing larger cottages and townhomes for retiring couples.
